Candidate Ratings — Methodology

How candidates
will be evaluated

Protect Calvert is developing a transparent, documented methodology for evaluating candidates on the issues covered by this site. That framework will be published here before any candidate is rated.

What we're building toward

The goal is a rating system that separates two distinct questions: how transparent and consistent a candidate has been, and where they actually stand on the issues.

Each candidate will receive two things displayed side by side — a scored transparency rating built from their documented public record, and a separate position label drawn from that same record. The transparency score measures honesty and consistency. The position label documents where they stand. They are never combined, because voters deserve to see both clearly.

The scoring framework — including the specific inputs, how they are weighted, what earns a higher or lower score, and how each tier is defined — is being developed carefully and will be published in full before it is applied to any candidate. Ratings will not appear on this site until that methodology is publicly available and has been shared for review.

The complete candidate rating methodology will be published on this page. If you have questions or feedback on how candidates should be evaluated, reach out at info@protectcalvert.org.
