Why I built this
I'm a Calvert County resident who felt there was a need for a central place where people could easily find public information and hear directly from candidates on issues impacting our community. The data center proposals were the issue that motivated me to finally do something about it — but my hope is that the site grows into a resource for residents on a variety of local issues over time.
I live in Lusby. I have skin in the game. I also recognize that means I have a perspective, which is exactly why the methodology for candidate ratings is documented publicly and every claim on this site is sourced. You don't have to take my word for anything.
Protect Calvert was founded in response to concerns about how data center development was handled in Calvert County — specifically the lack of public transparency before major decisions were made. That context informs how candidate positions are displayed on this site.
What this site tries to do
Make public information easier to find
Meeting records, public documents, vote histories, campaign statements, and candidate questionnaire responses collected in one place.
Distinguish facts from opinion
Issue pages cite supporting documents and clearly label what is established fact, what is an open question, and what is a candidate's own stated position.
Encourage informed civic engagement
The goal is not noise. It is better participation, stronger accountability, and a more informed public — regardless of which side of any issue you're on.
Correct mistakes when they're found
This site has already been corrected by readers. That's a feature, not a bug. If something here is wrong, I want to know.

Protect Calvert is not a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, a political action committee, or any other formal legal entity. It is an independent personal project operated by a private citizen of Calvert County, Maryland.
This site does not solicit or accept donations. It publishes documented public information and clearly distinguishes between established facts, open questions, and candidates' own stated positions.
Protect Calvert is not affiliated with Calvert County Government, any political party, candidate, campaign, developer, or development applicant. Information will be corrected when credible corrections are provided.
